How to configure Access Control on the MERCUSYS Wireless N Router?

This Article Applies to:

MERCUSYS Wireless N Routers provide convenient network management with the included Access Control function. Flexibly combine the host list, target list and schedule to restrict internet access. This article will show you how to set up website blocking on our wireless routers as we take the MW325R as an example.

 

To set up Access control with MERCUSYS wireless routers, the following steps are required:

Step 1

Log into MERCUSYS wireless router’s management page. If you are not sure about how to do this, please click How to log into the web-based interface of the MERCUSYS Wireless N Router.

Step2

Go to Advanced>Network control>Access control, and you will see the page below. Switch the Access Control function on.

Note: It can be remained off until you have finished the rule settings steps.

 

Step 3: Host settings

Click on , the configuration items will come up. Enter a Description for the entry. Click on  below Hosts Under Control to edit host settings.

1) Enter a brief description for the host you want to control, then select the IP Address in mode field. Enter the IP address range of the devices that need to be restricted (i.e. 192.168.1.105-192.168.1.110). Click on Apply to save the settings.

2) Enter a short description for the host to be restricted, then select the MAC Address in mode field. Enter the MAC address of the computer/device and the format is xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx. Click on Apply to save the settings.

Note: Click Save can only save the settings but not apply to current Description item. Click Apply to make it take effect on current Description. Several targets can be set and saved together, choose the one you want, then click apply.

 

Step 4: Target settings

Click on  button below Target column, then select Add to edit detailed targets.

Two methods of target settings are as below:

1) Enter a brief description of the target you are setting up, then select the Website Domain in Mode field. Type the domain name which you would like to be ruled in the Domain Name bar (You do not have to fill full web addresses such as www.google.com –simply entering ‘google’ will set the rule to block any domain name that contains the word ‘google’).

Click on Apply to save the settings.

2) Enter a brief description of the rule you are setting up, then select the IP Address. And type the Public IP range or specific one which you want to block in IP Address Range bar. And then type the specific port or range of the target in Port bar. Click on Apply to save the settings.

For some common service ports, select one from the drop-down list, and the corresponding port number will be filled in the Portfield automatically. Click on Apply to save the settings.

Note: Click Save can only save the settings but not apply to current Description item. Click Apply to make it take effect on current Description. Several targets can be set and saved together, choose the one you want, then click apply.

 

Step 5Schedule

Click on
